LED technology is taking over the lighting market by storm.Private and public sectors including residential buildings and commercial establishments are rapidly being upgraded with LED technology.
India, the second most populous country and fifth largest consumer of electricity, is witnessing the adoption of LED lights in lightning speed. While eco-friendliness of LED illumination is one of the key features, it is not the only merit of this technology. LED lighting is characterised by product variety, energy efficiency and high value for money. There are variety of lamps and luminaries available in the market. Even when considering buying LEDs designed for residential use there are many different types to consider and it often leads to confuse buyers. Domestic LED lights in India has come a long way and here is our guide to make the right choices:
1. Right colour temperature:
Firstly, light placement as per the ambience.Nordusk brings the mood with different lighting feature in LEDs that leads to customize your light accordingly. From warm white to neutral white, lightplays a pivotal role in your home décor. While choosing the right LED for your living room or bedroom, opt for warm white light as it tends to produce a relaxing effect. Cool white light enhances awareness. Task lighting is required for performing work or any meeting at home. For this awareness boosting effect, it is not suitable for bedroom since it may delay sleep. Neutral white light provides a balance between the warm white and cool white, making it suitable for areas where time-consuming tasks are carried out, such as kitchens and studios.
2. Right luminous output:
Wattage is like fuel consumption and lumen output is like themiles travelled. So, one must pick LEDs keeping in mind the lumen output. Bulbs that produce higher lumens with less wattage consumption should be chosen. Different areas have different ambience at home. LEDs are chosen based on their luminous efficacy, in with a view of not ending up with the lamps that are either too bright or too dim for the intended use.
3. Right beam shape:
LED bulbs with same lumen output might have different beam angle which accentuates the objects accordingly. LED street lights and pick up lighting are perfect example of how the beam angles of lights affect to make a place brighter. While performing any kind of task e.g., reading something or accomplishing a task that needs focus and concentration, a narrow beam light is required. Place a table lamp for uniform lighting output or recessed spotlight/downlight in order to concentrate better for your study room.
4. High colour rendition:
Colour Rendering Index (CRI) describes how faithfully a light source represents the true colours of its surfaces and objects. LED products purchased should have minimum CRI of 80, you can go for higher CRI as you increase the budget but not less than that. Poor colour rendition causes ‘ugly’ indoor lighting.
While purchasing LED products for your home make sure they are long lasting and comes with minimum warranty period. The minimum lamp life should be 15000 hours for decorative and omnidirectional LED bulbs and 25000 hours for directional LED blubs.
